The Office of Research and Graduate Studies

Office of Research and Graduate Studies

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS) administers research and graduate program activities for the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine (AU-CVM) under the guidance of the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies.

Research

The ORGS provides support to assist faculty members in proposal planning, budget development and both pre- and post-award activities pertaining to intramural and extramural funding opportunities.

Through the ORGS, the AU-CVM offers intramural funding opportunities that include Animal Health & Disease Research and Scott Ritchey Research Center programs, as well as the AU Research Initiative in Cancer (AURIC).  This office also coordinates with the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) in support of several institutional level programs, including the: Intramural Grants Program, Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program, and Creative Research & Scholarship Awards.

The ORGS encourages and supports faculty efforts to secure extramural funding sponsored by a host of public (ex. NIH, USDA, NSF, NASA, EPA, DOE) corporate and other private agencies (ex. Morris Animal Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation).  All proposal(s) must be approved by relevant academic department heads, the dean, and the vice president for research prior to submission. Ultimately, all contracts and grants are approved by the Vice President for Research and Economic Development.

The ORGS also assists AU-CVM investigators and their trainees with issues of research compliance and laboratory safety (ex. institutional animal care and use, institutional review board for research involving human subjects, recombinant DNA, biosafety pertaining to use of hazardous materials), as well as with  technology transfer through appropriate institutional offices.

Graduate Program

The AU-CVM supports programs of graduate education leading to both Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees through the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) Program.  The AU-CVM/BMS program is administered by the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and members of the graduate faculty at the AU-CVM.  Information pertaining to the AU-CVM/BMS program can be found here: http://www.vetmed.auburn.edu/graduate-program
