2014 marks 107 years of veterinary medicine at Auburn, and we invite you to enjoy springtime on the plains by attending Auburn’s 107th Annual Veterinary Conference scheduled for April 10-12, 2014.
Annual Conference sessions and labs offer the latest in continuing education from experts in the field and feature Auburn alumni and faculty.
This is an Auburn gathering that you will not want to miss as we are bringing the event back to the college campus. I look forward to welcoming you back.
Dean Calvin Johnson
We are delighted that you have decided to join us for this year’s meeting. We hope that your stay in Auburn is enjoyable and that your continuing education experience exceeds your expectations.
As a reminder, all continuing education meetings will take place on the campus at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in the Overton Educational Wing.
All reunions will begin at 5:30 pm on Saturday evening at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.
Class pictures will begin at 5:45 pm with the Class of 1964 and will run subsequently every 10 minutes. Dinner will be served for each group after the class picture is taken.
We will be offering a shuttle that will make a continual loop from the Vet School, to the West Lot located on main campus (Glenn Avenue), then the AU Hotel and Conference Center before returning to the Vet School. This shuttle will run during the following hours:
Thursday noon-10:00 pm
Friday 7:00 am-5:30 pm
Saturday 7:00 am-5:30 pm
If you desire to drive, our GPS location is 960 Wire Road, Auburn, AL. We ask that you park in the large “C” zone lot adjacent to Greene Hall, as that area is the only area that has been cleared for visitor parking for the duration of the conference.
If you pre-registered for the Clinical Pathology or Cardiology Labs, you will be able to pick up your registration packet in the lobby of Greene Hall beginning at noon. All other registrant packets will be available after noon in the Overton Educational Wing Lobby. If you will be attending your reunion only, please look for a registration desk near the Executive Offices at the AU Hotel. The area will be staffed beginning at 4:00 pm.
There will be tours of the facilities available during Back-to-College Night on Friday Night with the first tour departing at 6:15 pm and the final tour departing at 7:00 pm. Please note that due to the necessity of preventing pathogen transmission, that this is a facilities tour only. We are unable to tour the barns.
Please make sure to bring a sweater or light jacket as Overton tends to be a bit chilly in the classrooms.
**Babysitting is available on-site at the AU Hotel and Conference Center on Saturday Night. Veterinary students that are a part of the Christian Veterinary Fellowship will be providing activities and snacks for your children during this time. Please be sure your child(ren) have eaten supper before arrival. If you will require babysitting, you must fill out a babysitting form and pre-pay before dropping your children off Saturday Evening. The charge is $20/per child for the first child in a family and $10 for each additional child from the same family. Funds are payable upon arrival via check or cash. You may make checks payable to CVF (Christian Vet Fellowship).**
Fine Needle Aspirate Cytology of Cutaneous and Subcutaneous Masses: A Practical Review - Join the AUCVM clinical pathology team for a hands-on, interactive microscopy lab on diagnostic cytology of common lesions in the skin, subcutis and lymph nodes. Both neoplastic and inflammatory lesions will be covered during this session. Instructional material will consist of a blend of PowerPoint slides, projected images, hands-on review of glass slides and group discussion. Four board-certified clinical pathologists and two clinical pathology residents will be present to guide you through each slide and answer your questions. This CE session should benefit veterinarians with a wide-range of cytology experience, from novice to advanced!
The ECG course is intended for veterinarians desiring to strengthen their ECG interpretation skills. This course covers the physiology of cardiac conduction, the normal components of the ECG waveform, the basics of how to read ECG and clinically important cardiac arrhythmias, including bradyarrhythmias (40 min) and tachyarrhythmias (40 min) and their antiarrhythmic therapies. Finally, a practical hands-on ECG lab (100 min) for open forum discussions will follow to reinforce proficiency, group interaction and instructor feedback. At the completion of the course, the participant will be able to describe the normal electrical anatomy and conduction in the heart, identify normal and abnormal components on ECG, recognize clinically important arrhythmias and relate their significance and treatment.
