2010 Healthy Tigers Wellness Initiative

The Auburn University Department of Payroll and Employee Benefits announces a new healthcare benefit for Auburn University employees who subscribe to Auburn University's health insurance plan. Employees who elect to take advantage of the 2010 Healthy Tigers Wellness Initiative can earn a $25 per month credit on their health insurance premiums (up to $300 a year) by participating in a health and wellness screening program that is to be coordinated by the Auburn University Pharmaceutical Care Center located in 2155 Walker Building, Harrison School of Pharmacy.

The health screenings include completing a short health and wellness questionnaire, having a finger stick blood test performed to check cholesterol and blood sugar levels, getting a blood pressure measurement, and participating in an optional height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and percent body fat analysis.

Employee enrollment in the 2010 Healthy Tigers Wellness Initiative begins May 3. Employees will be able to schedule appointments online through the Healthy Tigers web site or by calling the pharmaceutical care center at 844-4099. Clinics are currently being scheduled for locations across main campus. The 30 slots for the College of Veterinary Medicine clinic on May 7 are filled, but appointments are available at the Auburn University Pharmaceutical Care Center. Register online today. 

Help Support Carrie Chavers

Relay for Life gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

Carrie Chavers, who is the wife of Jason Chavers (Information and Instructional Technology), was diagnosed with cancer last summer. Carrie has a relay team and a Relay for Life fund raiser that features drawings for an Auburn crazy quilt and a framed print of Samford Hall. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. To purchase tickets for the drawings, stop by Walgreens Pharmacy in Auburn and speak with Pat Webb, or contact Jason in IIT in Greene Hall. Winning tickets will be drawn the night of the relay event.

Money raised from Relay for Life will go toward education, research, advocacy, and support programs that benefit residents in Lee County.

Auburn University Human Resources announced Spirit of Excellence winners for January and February. The awards recognize university employees for exceptional performance and service to the university. The top four Employee of the Year recipients for 2010-11 will be selected from among the monthly Spirit of Excellence winners.

A winner for January is Lynda King of Pathobiology. Ray Allen of the Scott-Ritchey Research Center is one of four winners selected for February.

Joel Hunter, center, of Facilities is the new chair of the University Staff Council for 2010-11. He succeeds Judy Woodrow, right, of CVM’s Department of Clinical Sciences. Nakeisha Hicks of Foresty and Wildlife Sciences, left, is the chair-elect for the coming year. 

Dr. Jacob Johnson, CVM’s only small animal anesthesiologist, is deploying in August in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Also deploying are adjunct faculty/Auburn University D.V.M. graduates Dr. Soren Rodning and Dr. Brad Fields. Dr. (Major) Johnson is commander of the 358th Medical Veterinary Detachment.
