Emotional CPR

A special training for veterinary and health professionals and students is set for Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m., in Overton Educational Wing @theCVM. Emotional CPR will be led by Nicole German, graduate counseling intern for the CVM and a Ph.D. candidate in clinical psychology. The event is free but advance registration is required at www.vetmed.auburn.edu/ce.

 

Boshell Research Day

The 7th Annual Boshell Research Day is Friday, Feb. 28, which will showcase research by 40 AU faculty in six colleges and schools. Speakers include Dr. Gerald I. Shulman, co-director of the Yale Diabetes Research Center at the Yale University School of Medicine; Dr. Thomas Gettys, a professor at Pennington Biomedical Research Center; and banquet speaker Dr. Neil E. Schaffner, an endocrinologist in Lee County. For more information on cost and registration, click here.  

Honors Night

The CVM recognized 150 students with scholarships, awards and special acknowledgement during 2014 Honors Night, and four faculty who received college awards.

Students received scholarships and awards totaling more than $793,000, the largest amount given to students in the college’s history. For a list of student award winners, please click here.

  • Dr. Kellye Joiner, Student Government Association Outstanding Teacher Award
  • Dr. Julie Gard, Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching
  • Dr. Ray Wilhite, SCAVMA Teacher of the Year Award
  • Dr. Elaine Coleman, Zoetis Distinguished Teacher Award

White Coat Ceremony

The College of Veterinary Medicine's Office of Academic Affairs recently held White Coat ceremony for 113 members of the class of 2015. The ceremony acknowledges the point of transition from classroom study to clinical work. More than 500 family and friends attended the event and others viewed via internet.

Move Time

It is moving week for many @ the CVM – faculty and staff of the Wilford and Kate Bailey Small Animal will be moving into offices and service areas.

The Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital opens Monday, Feb. 24. Dedication is set for April 11.

Important Blood Drive

The CVM Blood Drive is Monday, Feb. 24, in Overton lobby, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. There is an urgent need for blood in the Alabama-Central Gulf Coast region. A “Top Dog” trophy will be awarded to the class with the most donating, so show up or preregister for an appointment time at: www.redcrossblood.org, sponsor code: auvet.

Several CVM family members have given personal testimony how donating blood impacted their lives as well as the lives of their family members. Take the opportunity to help someone by donating Feb. 24.

Bidder Names SRC Owl in Valentine’s Day auction

An anonymous bidder is giving the Southeastern Raptor Center $750 for the opportunity to name an Eastern Screech-owl during a Valentine’s Day gift auction. It is the first time the center offered the opportunity to name its newest resident.  She named the bird Marley. [Read More]
