Dr. Ray Dillon, Professor of Small Animal Surgery and Medicine, received his DVM from Texas A&M University in 1973 Magma Cum Laude. He was an intern and clinical resident at Auburn University earning his MS in Internal Medicine in 1977. He was board certified in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1978. Dr. Dillon was the first recipient and continues to hold the Jack O Rash Chair in Internal Medicine at Auburn University. He was Chair of the Section of Medicine for 18 years and was Interim Director of the Scott-Ritchey Research Center. Dr. Dillon has over 100 publications and 350 scientific presentations, many in international forums. He has been active in the training of interns, graduate students, and residents at Auburn University.

Dr. Dillon has been active in cardiopulmonary research, with emphasis on inflammatory lung diseases and congestive heart failure of dogs and cats. Dr. Dillon's accomplishments as a clinical scientist has been recognized though numerous awards such as the Phi Kappa Phi Scholar for Auburn University, Exceptional Achievement in Auburn University Extension, and the Beecham Award for Research Excellence. He continues to have collaborative research with Harvard Medical School in Boston and the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical School. He is active in teaching internal medicine to the veterinary professional students and graduate students, and receives referral cases at the Auburn University Teaching Hospital. Dr. Dillon completed 2 terms (94-96) as Chair of the General Faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University. In 1997, he was honored as Comparative Medicine Scholar for Tuft's University.
