Job Description

Provides diagnostic and medical   treatment for impounded, quarantined, sick or injured animals and performs   spay/neuters for adoptable animals at the Augusta Animal Services shelter,   within the guidelines of city and department policies and procedures, local   ordinances and state laws. This position reports to the Director, works with   governmental and law enforcement agencies, co-workers, veterinarians,   vendors, other animal shelters, rescue groups, animal owners and the general   public.



Education: Possession of a doctoral degree of Veterinary Medicine   from accredited veterinary college. 
Experience: Two (2) years’ experience serving in a   professional Veterinary capacity and/or public shelter. Experience working in   a high volume spay/neuter clinic is a plus.


  1. A current license in good  standing to practice veterinary medicine by the Veterinary Medical  Examining Board for the State of Georgia before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment.
  3. Current Department of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license and maintain licensure for the duration of employment. Licensing: Valid driver’s license

 Physical Requirements:
 Depending upon area of assignment: 
 Positions in this class typically   require: walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling,   talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Work is performed in an   office setting. 
 Moderate Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to   70 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly   to move objects. Frequent lifting of objects more than 75 pounds and   occasional lifting of objects more than 100 pounds are required.
