Veterinary Teaching Hospital Pharmacy

About the Service

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital Pharmacy is a licensed pharmacy in the state of Alabama and provides full pharmacy services to the patients of the Auburn University Teaching Hospital (JT Vaughan Large Animal and Wilford and Kate Bailey Small Animal).

We have four full-time pharmacists and six full-time pharmacy technicians. Staffing also includes a clinical pharmacist who is available to answer drug information questions and works directly with veterinary students and veterinarians with an emphasis on large animal cases and research. All of our pharmacists work with the Hospital’s Clinicians, whether large or small animal specialists, as well as any referring Veterinarians who need information.

We are a service first and foremost for our clients, clinicians, students, and staff.

What We Do

The mission of the Pharmacy Service is to provide services – prescriptions – for patients being seen on an outpatient basis pursuant to hospital policies and federal guidelines. Refills are provided for our local clients.

The Pharmacy serves as a source of information for clinicians, students and outside veterinarians.  We provide medications for inpatients. We help teach our students in regards to legalities of prescribing medications and dosage calculations.

We fill prescriptions for patients who are seen by our veterinarians at least once a year in the hospital/clinic.

We are NOT a retail pharmacy (Walmart, CVS, or Walgreens).

We cannot fill prescriptions written by veterinarians outside of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

We are a resource for drug information for you and your veterinarian.
