Paul H. Walz, DVM, MS, PhD, Diplomate, ACVIM

Dr. Walz received his DVM from Michigan State University in 1992. Following 2 years in a mixed animal practice in Corunna, Michigan, he returned to Michigan State University for a residency in Food Animal Medicine, Surgery, & Production Medicine. Dr. Walz completed his residency, received his MS degree in 1997, and became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in Large Animal Medicine. Dr. Walz continued his graduate studies at Michigan State University and received the PhD degree in 2000. After postgraduate training, Dr. Walz joined the faculty at Kansas State University in 2000 as an assistant professor in the Section of Agricultural Practices. Dr. Walz joined the faculty at Auburn University in 2004 as an Assistant Professor in the Section of Food Animal Medicine in the Departments of Clinical Sciences and Pathobiology.

Research Interests

Dr. Walz’s clinical and research interests include medical and surgical conditions affecting food animals, as well as infectious diseases of cattle. His primary research focus is bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection in cattle. Specific interests involve improving diagnostics for BVDV, and evaluating the pathophysiology of disease associated with this viral infection of cattle.
