Dr. Jan K. Strother to Deliver Commencement AddressDate: 4/15/2011 8:07 am
Dr. Jan K. Strother, a small animal veterinarian from Hartselle, Alabama, and vice president of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), will deliver the commencement address for the College of Veterinary Medicine’s 104th commencement on May 10. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. in the Auburn Arena.
"We are very pleased Dr. Strother will give the graduation address to the class of 2011,” said Dean Timothy Boosinger.
During her two-year term as AVMA vice president, Dr. Strother serves as liaison with the student chapters of the association.
A 1986 graduate of the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Strother is founder and hospital director of the North Alabama Cat and Bird Veterinary Clinic in Hartselle. Her professional interests include avian and feline medicine and surgery.
Dr. Strother’s skills as a public speaker have resulted in appearances as a guest on Good Morning America, the Today Show, Fox Pet News, and many other radio and television shows to discuss pet health issues.
Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine is the oldest in the South and the seventh oldest in the nation, having graduated over 6,160 doctors of veterinary medicine. Programs leading to both the Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in biomedical sciences are also offered.
