The American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) has honored John MacDonald with the prestigious Award of Excellence for his contributions to science and education.
MacDonald, a professor with the College of Veterinary Medicine, came to the Small Animal Teaching Hospital in 1980. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University becoming board certified by American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1979.
MacDonald’s predominant research efforts relate to parasiticidal therapy with particular reference to fleas. He has presented more than 400 hundred lectures to local, regional, national, and international audiences and given four tours of lectures in Japan.
He served on the American College of Veterinary Dermatology executive board for ten years with two-year terms as member-at-large, treasurer, secretary, president, and past president. He currently serves as the ACVD representative to the American Board of Veterinary Specialists acting as a liaison between the two organizations.
MacDonald accepted the Award of Excellence during the North American Veterinary Dermatology Forum held April 13-16 in Galveston, Texas.
