What We Do

The section of Radiology is integral to the professional degree. The section faculty participate in all systems courses as well as sponsors the diagnostic imaging course in the freshman year. Twenty-five senior clinical rotations are sponsored by the section along with elective ultrasound rotations for sophomore and junior students. The section also teaches graduates courses available for graduate students in other disciplines. Interns and residents from other sections also frequently rotate through radiology and ultrasound areas as part of their specialty board preparation. Currently 2-3 residents are enrolled in the residency program of the radiology section that leads to qualification for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Radiology.

The Section of Radiology offers imaging services for the patients of the Small Animal Teaching Hospital and JTV Large Animal Teaching Hospital in diagnostic radiology, ultrasonography echocardiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging (1.5T magnet) , and nuclear imaging. A linear accelerator is available for the treatment of cancer in large and small animals. All faculty participate in continuing education performed formally at Auburn University and local, state, national and international meetings. The section also processes consultation/referral cases for veterinary medical practitioners in the southeast and throughout the nation.

The faculty of the Radiology Section have placed research emphasis in many areas including small animal orthopedic diseases, central nervous system and neurologic diseases, cardiovascular/respiratory diseases as well as therapeutic oncology, nuclear medicine, and ultrasound imaging.
