Welcome to AAZV

AAZV stands for the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians.  AAZV was established in 1960 with a mission to “improve the health care and promote conservation of captive and free-ranging wildlife.”  In order to achieve this mission, the objectives of AAZV include:

  • To advance programs for preventive medicine, husbandry, and scientific research in the field of veterinary medicine dealing with captive and free-ranging wild animals.
  • To provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of problems related to the field of captive and free-ranging wild animals.
  • To publish and distribute scientific information pertinent to the field of veterinary medicine dealing with captive and free-ranging wild animals.
  • To enhance and uphold the professional ethics of veterinary medicine.
