About AVESS

AVESS - Auburn Veterinary Education Supply Service -- open since 1973, is a unique student run organization with a two fold mission: to provide books and supplies to students as inexpensively as possible, and to return the profits in a way that directly benefits the student body.  AVESS is student-owned, student-managed, student-staffed, and student-oriented.  Through the support of Nestle-Purina, AVESS makes most of its profits through the sales of Pro Plan and Purina Veterinary Diets.  AVESS then returns the profits to the vet school in the form of donations.

AVESS provides minimal markups on all items, used book sales, non-inventory book orders, Junior year surgery pack rentals, special orders for Purina products, and more.  Also, AVESS isn't just for the vet students.  Anyone can shop at AVESS, however Purina pet food products may only be purchased by AUCVM vet students, residents and interns.  We welcome and encourage patronage by  members of your family, members of the community, and alumni.

What We Do

  • A.V.E.S.S., a non-profit organization, is owned and operated by students. 
  • We are a Veterinary bookstore, located near Auburn's College of Veterinary Medicine.  
  • We provide veterinary students and faculty with required textbooks, scrubs, instruments and supplies for class work.  We also strive to meet the needs of our alumni, practicing Veterinarians, as well as other schools of Veterinary Medicine. 
  • Our store also provides students, faculty and supporters of the University with Auburn Veterinary Medicine apparel and gift items.

Our Board

AVESS store and the AVESS Board of Directors are here for YOU.  The AVESS Board serves the purpose of overseeing requests and purchasing those items needed at AUCVM.  The only way the money is utilized is through requests made directly by students and faculty.  We would like to provide anything you may need during your time at AUCVM - whether it is for convenience, education, or comfort.  Past items we have provided include small animal scales, bovine hoof trimming chute, palm lab gas analyzers, digital and video cameras, new chairs and tables, reference books, surgery equipment, microscopes and microscope projectors, radiograph view-boxes, etc. 

Donation request forms are located on the first floor of Greene Hall in the hallway where classes meet.  Each form needs to be filled out completely and placed in the AVESS drop box the Friday before the board meets (every first Monday of the month).

While the Board welcomes all requests and will address each request submitted, please consider if it may be a need that should be met by the University. Such items should be requested to the Board only if they have been denied by administration. If you are not sure, please feel free to ask any of the board members or go ahead and submit your request.
