Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research Programs

 
 

Mission Statement

The mission of the Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research Program is to enhance the opportunities for diabetes research at Auburn University by facilitating cross-disciplinary scientific discussion, supporting the study of new ideas, fostering the development of investigators new to the field of diabetes, and expanding the overall base of diabetes investigation at the University.

Vision

The vision of the Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research Program is to improve the life of all people with diabetes through world-class investigation performed at Auburn University into the prevention, cure, and management of diabetes and its complications.

Goals

  • Establish a registry of diabetes investigators at Auburn University.

  • Develop effective mechanisms through which diabetes researchers at Auburn University may communicate with each other.

  • Support the exploration of new ideas in diabetes research through a small grants program.

  • Foster the development of new investigators through a travel grant program.

  • Obtain external funding to support new multidisciplinary investigation and ongoing program activities.

  • Develop relationships with community leaders interested in diabetes investigation to increase public support for diabetes programs.

Available Programs

Visiting Professor Program:

The goal of this program is to bring outstanding diabetes investigators to Auburn University for one or more days to interact with faculty, trainees, and students and to make a formal presentation in a departmental or academic unit lecture series. At least three awards will be made each year to support these visits.  Auburn University faculty are invited to nominate individuals for participation in this program and to develop programs in which the Visiting Professor could participate. Contact Robert Judd at juddrob@vetmed.auburn.edufor information about application process. Preference will be given to applications submitted by September 1 of the current academic year.

Travel Grants for Trainees in Diabetes Research:

Trainees who are presenting diabetes-related research at a national meeting are invited to apply for a $1000 travel grant. Contact Robert Judd at juddrob@vetmed.auburn.edufor additional information about the application process.
