1. Research Proposal: (Instructions)
A Maximum of 10 typed, single-spaced pages. (No smaller then 11 font and 0.75 inch margins.)

2. Duration - Duration will be up to 2 years. Second -year funding is dependent upon satisfactory progress the first year and the availability of funds.
3. Include the significance of your research and how it will impact on food animal health and diseases, Alabama economy and/or the health and welfare of Alabama citizens.
4. List all current funding and all extramural grant proposals that you have submitted during the past year. Application for extramural funds, especially if you have been supported previously from the internal funds, will be considered in the decision to fund the current project.
5. Budget - not to exceed $20,000/year. The budget should realistic reflect the scope of the proposed work. NOTE: Funds for travel not allowed. If the proposed work requires more than $20,000/year then supplemental funding sources available to the principal investigator for completion of the proposed research must be indicated. If principal investigator's salary is requested, a justification is required. Employee benefits of 24.5% must be included on all wages.
6. If you have been funded previously from this funding source, please list the project(s) and for the most recently funded project provide a progress report that includes significance of findings and publications and/or presentations resulting from the research. Funding of a new grant will be contingent on evidence of satisfactory progress during the previous funding cycle. Timely publication in appropriate refereed journals of results from previous Animal Health & Disease Research grants will be considered favorably with regard to receipt of additional support. Please submit the progress report as an attachment to the research proposal.
7. All proposals will be reviewed and rated by a Research Review Committee of the College of Veterinary Medicine, established by the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. As in the past, priority will be given to proposals focused on food animal health and disease research. In addition, the following criteria will be used to evaluate the proposal: 1) potential of proposed research to attract external funding, 2) scientific quality of the idea, 3) scientific and technological quality of the approach, 4) adequacy of training or experience of research team, 5) impact on Alabama economy and/or health and welfare of Alabama citizens, 6) feasibility of attaining objectives within time suggested, 7) research and publication productivity, and 8) projects targeting development of pilot data for federally sponsored projects are encouraged. Bridge funding for existing project will be considered.
8. Expected starting date: October 1, 2006. However, in order to initiate the award, copies of IACUC protocol and other approvals (if applicable) must be provided.
9. All coinvestigators are required to sign. (If coinvestigators have not read the proposal; it will be disqualified). Also all department heads involved will need to initial the proposal in order to keep them informed of the research activities of their faculty.
