Cytology Description

Smears made of needle aspirates from the mandibular lymph node are highly cellular.  Most of the cells are large immature lymphocytes that have a loose chromatin pattern with multiple prominent nucleoli.  Mitotic activity appears to be slightly increased.  A few small mature lymphocytes are also seen, and a moderate number of peripheral blood cells are present in the background.
