Case Name:

Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia

Signalment:

9-year old spayed female Cocker spaniel

Presenting Complaint and Patient History:

The dog has been weak and lethargic for several days. Today she refused to eat.

Physical Examination:

The dog is very weak, with mild tachypnea and tachycardia. Mucous membranes are pale and slightly icteric.

Regenerative anemia with moderate agglutination and spherocytes

Hematology Description

There is moderate anisocytosis and polychromasia, indicating a regenerative response to anemia. Many spherocytes are seen, and one smear shows moderate agglutination of the RBCs. Both of these findings are consistent with a diagnosis of immune-mediated hemolytic anemia.
