Ellen N. Behrend, V.M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Ellen Behrend received her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1988, followed by a 1 year internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Michigan State University and then 2 years in private practice. Dr. Behrend finished both a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine and a Master’s Degree at Colorado State University in 1994, and she completed a fellowship in Endocrinology in 1998 and a PhD in 2001 from Auburn University. Dr. Behrend has served as a consultant for the Auburn University Endocrine Diagnostic Service since 1994 and VIN since 1998. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Studies at Auburn University. Dr. Behrend has received the Daniels Award for Excellence in Small Animal Endocrinology in 1998, the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2003 and the Norden Distinguished Teacher Award in 2007. She has authored or co-authored 40 abstracts, 42 journal articles and 26 book chapters. Dr. Behrend is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Small Animal Internal Internal Medicine).
