Equine Critical Care Faculty
The newly developed Equine Critical Care Service is supervised by Dr. Amelia Munsterman, who is boarded in surgery, with Dr. Reid Hanson, boarded in surgery and critical care.
Dr. Munsterman is available for consultation from referring veterinarians at any time after hours. She provides care alongside our residents for each emergency case that presents to Auburn University. When she is not on clinics, the residents work alongside one of our talented clinicians in their specialties.
Integration of 2 additional surgeons (Drs. Fred Caldwell and Wayne Waguespack), and 4 boarded medicine specialists (Drs. Allison Stewart, Debra Ruffin-Taylor, Jennifer Taintor, and Erin Groover) along with 6 resident veterinarians allows for a cooperative effort in caring for equine emergencies.
The Critical Care Unit, isolation facility and inpatient barns are monitored 24 hours a day by veterinary nurses, with the assistance of fourth year veterinary students, to provide continuous monitoring and supervision of intensive care.
Boarded specialists in anesthesia, radiology, theriogenology (reproduction), and ophthalmology are also available for consultation on emergency cases.
