Fees & Payments

Veterinary care can be expensive. Advanced diagnostic techniques such as CT scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), endoscopy, surgical intervention and improved critical care management can result in a significant financial investment. Most pets are NOT covered by insurance. Therefore, we offer the following information concerning fees.

Fees are charged for all services at the Auburn University Small Animal Teaching Hospital. State support is limited to our academic program and not client services.

Examination, diagnostic and treatments costs are discussed during the intial examination. Clients will be provided with an ESTIMATE of expected costs. The estimate will be provided at the time of initial examination and the client will receive a copy. Efforts will be made to apprise owners if the cost of their pet's care exceeds the estimate, but that may not be possible in all cases. If you have concerns about the anticipated costs, please discuss them with the doctor at the time the estimate is presented. Unless specifically noted, estimates DO NOT include follow-up visits / tests.

In most cases, the final bill will be within the estimate range. However, unforeseen complications or changes in the diagnostic or treatment plan can substantially alter the final bill. Whenever possible, the clinician or student working with your pet will update your estimate before proceeding with an expensive procedure.

A DEPOSIT equal to 1/2 of the high end of the estimate will be required at the time of hospitalization. Full payment is required at discharge from the hospital. The hospitals do not carry accounts.

Fees may be paid by cash, check, Visa or Master Card. Care Credit is an available option for applicants approved by the credit provider. Auburn University does not support any payment plans.
