New Greene Hall Classroom systems

New podia are planned for Greene 120, 121, and 230.  The new systems would be similar to the one in Greene 160, except the podium would be smaller, and there would be no microscope or touch panel screen.

Based on faculty responses to the recent survey, the plan is to put a new fixed podium on the left near the existing switch panel on the wall.  The podium would house the computer, a document camera with a backlight, a videotape player, a 17" LCD monitor, and a single switch to select the equipment (computer, document camera, secondary computer, or videotape player).  The two existing podia would be removed, and a new ceiling-mounted LCD projector would be installed.  A smaller portable podium would be located in the center where the current center podium is located.  The remote keyboard and mouse would be usable from that smaller podium.  The existing overhead projector would be located on a movable cart.

The location of the projector has not been determined.  It could go on the ceiling to display on either the left screen, right screen, or center screen.  Unlike the existing projector, it will be possible to mount the new projector so that it can fill the screen.  The trade-offs on the projector location will be discussed in a meeting on Wednesday, June 25th, at 8:00 a.m. in Greene Hall 120.

The images below illustrate a podium very similar to the one we propose.

Artist's Rendition of Podium in Greene 120:
This illustrates approximately how the podium would look.  The podium would probably be located a little closer to the left wall than shown here.  The size and scale are not exact.  The chairs to be replaced in the front center of the room are not shown.
View of podium from about the center of the room:
The podium would be located on the left side next to the switch panel on the wall.  A foldable shelf would be located on the right.  This view is about how it would appear from the center of the room.
View of podium from the aisle on the left of the room:
The foldable shelf would be located on the right side, rather than on the left as shown.  And the projector would be ceiling mounted--not on the podium.
View from instructor's location:
NOTE: the height of the back panel and side panels would be lowered by 2 to 4 inches.  Also, we would use a 17" LCD monitor that would sit into a recessed tray, and would not  extend above the panel.
View from instructor's position with keyboard tray extended:
The finger is pointing to the control switch, which is similar to the one in Greene 160,  This switch would replace the existing switches located on the current center podium.
View from instructor's location with doors open:
NOTE: The document camera would have a larger backlit area--similar to the system in Greene 160.
