Eleanor M. Josephson, DVM, PhD

Associate Professor of Neuroscience and Anatomy, joined the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She received a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Louisville in 1984, and a D.V.M. from Auburn University in 1988. After completing an internship at Rowley Memorial Animal Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts, she received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science from Auburn University in 1995. She was a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Kent Morest at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

Research Interests

My research has focused on the anatomical correlates of information processing in the olfactory system. I have developed a culture system of olfactory epithelium and olfactory bulb tissues that responds to airborne odorants. My colleagues and I hope to use the culture system to study signaling and signal regulation in olfactory receptor neurons and olfactory bulb neurons.

On a different topic, I am studying whether web-based technology contributes positively to student performance in the gross anatomy laboratory. I am developing a video-based dissection guide for in-lab use that I plan to evaluate for its effectiveness in helping students learn veterinary anatomy.
