Henderson Named Missouri Veterinary Alumnus Of The Year
Dr. Ralph Henderson of Clinical Sciences recently was named the 2003 Alumnus of the Year by the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Henderson, a professor of small animal surgery and oncology, serves as the Charlotte and Robert Lowder Distinguished Professor at Auburn.
The award recognizes Dr. Henderson's outstanding professional and personal achievements and his contributions to the veterinary profession. He has been at Auburn since 1972, the year he earned his doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Missouri. He completed his master's degree in surgery at Auburn in 1976.
Dr. Henderson is a 1978 diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, and a 1988 diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, clinical oncology. He received Auburn's Norden Distinguished Teaching Award in 1993, and the 1995 Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association's Certificate of Teaching Excellence. Dr. Henderson was named the Lowder Distinguished Professor in 2000.
Dr. Ron Cott, associate dean for student and alumni affairs at the Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, said that Dr. Henderson was chosen from among several alumni who had been nominated during the year. This award has been presented to many prestigious recipients including three past presidents of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
