WinSCP

WinSCP is a free secure FTP program for windows.  It can be used to copy files to and from the CVM network.

You can download a preconfigured version of this program here.

To Use WinSCP

  1. First download the program.

  2. You will need to unzip the download and place it somewhere on your computer such as the desktop or in a directory of your choosing.
  3. Browse to where you unzipped the download and run WinSCP.
  4. When the Program opens it will be preconfigured to connect to vetsun.vetmed.auburn.edu.  All you need to do is click on the Login button at the bottom.
  5. The first time you connect you will be given a warning which in essence tells you that you have never securely connected to this host before and you need to decide if you want to accept the host key used to encrypt the server.  Select Yes.

  6. Once you have logged in with your username and password you will see a split screen window.  The left side of the screen will show files and directories on your local computer.  The right side of the screen will show files and directories on the CVM server.  By default your remote window will show the contents of your H drive.

  7. Transferring files back and forth can be done several ways but the easiest is to just drag them from one window to the other.

  8. When you are done simply close the window to end the program.

For more advanced information on how to use the program you can either contact the Computer Group at 844-6734 or check out the instructions on the WinSCP web site.
