Neurologist Iain Clarke to Speak at AU Veterinary College

Neurologist Dr. Iain J. Clarke of Australia's Monash Medical Centre will speak at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine on Nov. 3, 2003.

He will present "Dissection of leptin effects on appetite and neuroendocrine function: the central role of neuropeptide Y" at noon in 203 Greene Hall.

Dr. Clarke is the head of the neuroendocrinology section and director of biological resources of Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research, Monash Medical Centre, Australia. He is a senior principal research fellow conducting full-time research in neuroendocrinology.

"His research has been key to our understanding of the generation and regulation of luteinizing hormone secretion," said AU Professor Jim Sartin. "Moreover, he is a leading authority on the effects of stress and under-nutrition to inhibit reproduction."

Dr. Clarke earned his Ph.D. in animal reproduction and behavior in 1976 from the University Medical Research Council, United Kingdom. His honors include the 1992 Woodward Prize for excellence in research in neuroscience, the 1997 Senior Fulbright Award, and the 2001 Asia and Oceania Medal of The Endocrine Society.

He is the receiving editor for the Journal of Neuroendocrinology and has served on editorial boards and written for numerous international journals.
