Alumni Advisory Council Helps Support Veterinary CollegeBy Dr. Gary BeardAssistant Dean Beginning in 1967, our Alumni Advisory Council has played an integral role in guiding the College of Veterinary Medicine and in raising private support for various activities. We have been blessed with insightful members who have given back to their alma mater and to the profession. Twelve members are elected for four years on a staggered-term basis, so that one-fourth of the terms will expire each year. They are selected from Alabama, Kentucky and other states with active alumni. Our current members are Dr. J. Lee Alley of Montgomery, Ala.; Dr. Jerry Bancroft of Cleveland, Tenn.; Dr. Frank Brown of Mobile, Ala.; Dr. Albert Corte of Daphne, Ala.; Dr. Bill DeWitt of Birmingham, Ala.; Dr. Melanie Donofro of Tallahassee, Fla.; Dr. Richard Gallina of Cordova, Tenn.; Dr. David Hayes of Hueytown, Ala.; Dr. Terry Pike of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; Dr. Lynn Skaggs of Winchester, Ky.; Dr. Tom Whitley of Tallahassee, Fla.; and Dr. Don Wood of Auburn, Ala. Ex-officio members include Dr. Doug Morgan of Dunwoody, Ga., immediate past president; Dr. Tom Williamson of Cullman, Ala., president of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association; and Dr. Roger Murphy of Lexington, Ky., president of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association. These individuals have interests that cover a broad scope of disciplines, and thus they are highly capable of providing insight into the future of the college. The dean meets with the council during the fall and spring each year and obtains their consultation in developing proposals for planning and development. These meetings include discussions of college programs and tours of facilities. We would like to thank these alumni who donate their time and efforts
to make our College of Veterinary Medicine among the best veterinary institutions.
The council members are invaluable assets to Auburn University and the
veterinary profession.
