Application and Admission Process for Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine

We are pleased that you are considering pursuing a career in veterinary medicine through Auburn University! As the application deadline approaches, please review this information for details about the application and admission process for Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Transcript Entry and AU Core

It is essential that you input all past and planned coursework for the fall 2021 and spring 2022 terms. Doing so will allow you to match planned/future coursework to required prerequisite courses.

If you have already finished a four-year degree OR if you will finish a four-year degree by June 15, 2022, you should select “I am not matching any courses to this prerequisite” for ALL courses that list “AU Core” behind the course requirement. Your indication on the application of your graduation date will be used to assess whether we check for the AU Core or not. If you indicate that you will graduate by June 15, 2022, are offered a seat in the Class of 2026 but decide not to graduate, it will be up to you to ensure you have met the AU Core requirements. If you fail to meet all prerequisite requirements after receiving an offer of admission, your offer will be rescinded.

Final transcripts and all prerequisite courses must be completed and submitted by June 15, 2022.

Submitting Your Application

You must ensure you review and follow up on any correspondence you receive from the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS). You must complete all necessary items and submit all the required documentation to have your application verified by VMCAS. Note that applications not verified by VMCAS will not receive consideration from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. While the deadline to submit your application is September 15, 2021, we recommend that you allow yourself a bit more time by submitting earlier. This potentially allows you to remedy any deficiencies in your application should there be any.

Supplemental Application

There is no supplemental application for Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. However, there is a supplemental application fee that must be paid by September 15, 2021. Please click this link to submit your non-refundable supplemental application fee.

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

The GRE will not be used to assess applicants to the Class of 2026. It is not necessary to send GRE scores to Auburn University.

Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA)

Applicants applying to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program at Auburn University must meet a minimum GPA requirement. If you are an Alabama resident or Kentucky SREB contract seat applicant, you must have a 2.5 overall GPA after your fall grades are submitted in December. If you are an At-Large (remaining 48 states plus Puerto Rico) applicant, you must have a 3.0 overall GPA. The overall GPA is comprised of all coursework taken beyond the high-school level and all attempts. You must submit any transcripts generated from an institution of higher education. Please remember to submit transcripts from institutions where you may have earned college credit while dually enrolled during your high school career.

Veterinary Experience

At the request of several applicants to the Class of 2025, we temporarily lowered our minimum number of veterinary experience hours from 500 to 250. The 250-hour threshold remains for applicants to the Class of 2026. You must report at least 250 hours of veterinary experience to have your application considered.

Email Address on File with VMCAS

Note that the email address that you list on your VMCAS application is the one to which all correspondence will be delivered. Once your application has been submitted, we cannot change your email address. This is particularly important if you plan to graduate before May of 2022 OR if you will no longer have access to your email address after a certain period preceding matriculation here at Auburn University.

Timeline and Notifications

Once applications are received and verified, we will begin processing them. Applicants in the At-Large pool who are invited to interview will receive invitations in mid-December. Interviews will take place in January/February of 2022. Applicants in our Alabama and Kentucky pools must submit fall grades to the Office of Academic Affairs by December 31, 2021. Individuals in the Alabama and Kentucky pools invited to interview will receive invitations by late January of 2022. Interviews will take place in February/March of 2022.
