Dr. Robert Lofton is a native of Louisiana and came to Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine after completing a bachelor degree from LSU. After graduation with the class of 1972, Robert spent a year in a companion animal practice in Roanoke, Virginia before returning to Louisiana and moving to Lake Charles.
Dr. Lofton founded a companion animal practice that grew to a 4.5 doctor American Animal Hospital Association accredited hospital. During these 42 years, Dr. Lofton was active in local, state and national veterinary associations as well as serving on the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine. In 2012 Dr. Lofton sold the private practice and came to Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine to become an Assistant Professor in the Auburn University Veterinary Clinic (Community Practice). Dr. Lofton is married to Lela, an Auburn graduate. He has a King Charles Cavalier named Elle, a fine cat named Buck Jones and five backyard chickens.
Teaching Interests:
Internal Medicine, Preventative Health Care, Dentistry and Practice Management. Dr. Lofton’s desire is to help fourth year veterinary students become “practice ready” veterinarians.
