Veterinary Technician III, Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine

Rachel Mikulencak is a Veterinary Technician III at Auburn University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, bringing 10 years of experience as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, including five years at Auburn University. Her clinical background includes feline-only medicine, emergency/critical care, oncology, and anesthesia. Her primary areas of practice currently include dermatology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, community practice, theriogenology, emergency/critical care, and anesthesia.

In her current role, Rachel assists with patient care and client communication across Medicine and Surgery, floating between services as demand requires. She coaches senior veterinary students on technical skills, maintains equipment and supply inventory, follows cleaning and biohazard protocols, and assists with billing and charge entry as needed. She is also a member of the Blood Bank team and the HBOT, or hyperbaric oxygen therapy, team.

A dedicated educator, Rachel regularly teaches and works alongside clinical-year veterinary students.  Her professional interests include genetics, herbalism, behavior, and breed-specific issues. She is Fear Free Elite Certified and certified in Veterinary Herbal Medicine Consulting.

Rachel grew up with an affinity for dog breeds, including their differences, histories, and purposes. She enjoys connecting with breeders and hopes to break into the show world herself one day. That lifelong curiosity about breed form and function shapes how she approaches patient care. She believes patients deserve specialized care based on their build and historical use, and she values breed-informed education as a way to strengthen patient care and client trust.
