Technician Small Group Sessions

Three unique limited enrollment sessions will be held at the College of Vet Med featuring content focused on dental radiography, anesthesia/analgesia for equine ophthalmology and basic life support/CPR. These small group sessions will run concurrently with Annual Conference on Friday and Saturday, space in each course is limited and main conference registration is required. Veterinary technicians and assistants have the option to register for main conference only or main conference registration plus up to four (4) additional small group courses. General registration fee for veterinary technicians and assistants is $85 and small group session fees vary between an additional $115-195 per session.

Small Animal Dental Radiography: Clinical Techniques

Participants will receive an overview on the importance of and indications for dental radiographs in small animal general practice and will be introduced to the two basic techniques for positioning dental radiographs. The session will include hands-on demonstration and instruction in radiographic positioning for the small animal patient.

Regional Anethesia and Analgesia in Equine Ophthalmology

Regional anesthesia and analgesia is essential for successful standing ophthalmic surgery in horses. When combined with an appropriate sedation protocol, many surgical procedures can be performed standing, avoiding the cost and risks associated with general anesthesia. This lecture and hands-on lab will instruct attendees on how to administer: eyelid blocks (auroculopalpebral, supraorbital (frontal), palpebral), line blocks, local blocks, retrobulbar block, along with placement and management of subpalpebral lavage systems for medication administration in the horse.

Participants will receive an overview of principles and application of basic and advanced life support. Participants will have the opportunity to practice the skills and techniques discussed. This hands-on lab will include opportunities to practice compressions, intubation, manual ventilation, basic ECG interpretation and a review of commonly used CPR medications and patient monitoring.
