Biography

Dr. Katharine Horzmann is originally from Missouri and earned a BS in Animal Science (2007), a MPH (2010), and her DVM (2011) from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Following veterinary school, Dr. Horzmann completed an Anatomic Pathology Residency at Purdue University in Indiana from 2011-2014 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2014. From 2014 to 2018 she earned a PhD in Toxicology at Purdue University under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Freeman. Her research investigated the developmental toxicity of legacy, emergent, and current use environmental toxicants in the zebrafish model organism. Dr. Horzmann joined the Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine Faculty in 2018 as an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Pathology and is active in the teaching, diagnostic, and research missions of the College and Pathobiology Department.

Research Interests

Dr. Horzmann is interested in the connection between environmental, veterinary, and human health following the “One Health” concept. Her focus is on determining the potential health effects of developmental exposure to common drinking water contaminants by using the zebrafish biomedical model. Interests include developmental toxicity of chemical mixtures, the developmental origins of health and disease as related to toxicant exposures, and zebrafish behavior.
