Biography

 

Dr. Chris Lea is a native of central Alabama and a graduate of Auburn University, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (1996) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1999). He currently serves as an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine (AUCVM), where he has been a member since 2015.

Before joining AUCVM, Dr. Lea practiced companion animal medicine in Nashville and Atlanta, serving in both clinical and leadership roles, including as a Medical Director in private practice.

Dr. Lea is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in Canine and Feline Practice. His clinical interests include internal medicine, dermatology, integrative medicine, and preventive care. He is certified in animal physical rehabilitation through the University of North Carolina (CCAT) and holds additional certifications in Fear Free practice and Canine Arthritis Management. He is also a USDA-accredited veterinarian.

Dr. Lea actively participates in professional organizations, including the AVMA, AAHA, AAVMC, and the Alabama and East Alabama Veterinary Medical Associations. He has held leadership roles in AAHA certification and served on the AAHA Vaccine Guidelines Task Force.

He has published peer-reviewed articles in Clinician’s Brief, Veterinary Record Case Reports, and Frontiers in Microbiology. Additionally, he has been featured in media outlets such as The Huffington Post, Insider, and The Atlantic for his expertise in pet health and wellness.
