Biography

 

Dr. Lazarowski is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology in the College of Veterinary Medicine and serves as Chief Behavioral Scientist with Auburn University’s Canine Performance Sciences program. She is also an adjunct instructor in the Department of Psychological Sciences. Dr. Lazarowski earned her BA and MA in Psychology with a focus on animal behavior and cognition from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, after which she studied canine behavior and olfaction as a Research Specialist in North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She then earned her PhD in Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences from Auburn University, followed by completion of a Postdoctoral Fellowship with Auburn University’s Canine Performance Sciences program. She is also credentialed as a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB) through the Animal Behavior Society.

  • Behavioral factors associated with working dog performance
  • Cognitive and behavioral development of dogs across the lifespan, including effects of early life factors and aging
  • Olfactory learning and behavior of scent detection animals
  • Optimizing training, performance, and welfare of working dogs
  • Effects of human-animal interactions on both human and working dog well-being
