Biography
Dr. Austen Vollenweider earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Auburn University in 2012 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Tech in 2016. After graduation, he spent 2.5 years in general practice before transitioning into emergency and critical care medicine.
Dr. Vollenweider has practiced in a variety of clinical settings across the country, gaining broad experience managing emergency cases, trauma, and critically ill patients. He enjoys bringing this real-world experience into the academic environment to help prepare veterinary students for the challenges they will encounter in clinical practice.
He has a special interest in working dog medicine and prehospital emergency care for K9 handlers and completed the NAVEMS Prehospital Veterinary First Responder (PVFR) Basic Instructor Course. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and is a fitness enthusiast who trains Brazilian jiu-jitsu, plays golf, and competes in triathlons.
