Comparative Pathology Core (CPC)

The Comparative Pathology Core offers comprehensive anatomic pathology services to support animal health and research across interdisciplinary studies, both within and outside of Auburn University. Our team is committed to providing high-quality research support, diagnostic services, and specialized training to advance scientific discovery.

Our services include:

  • Research Support: We offer a wide variety of pathology services to research investigators, including project consultation, tissue handling and collection, slide interpretation, and specialized training.
  • Pathological Assessment: Our team conducts diagnostic necropsies and biopsies on research animals to identify causes of illness or death, as well as evaluate the impact of research procedures and genetic modifications. Ancillary tests, including parasitology, bacteriology, mycology, molecular diagnostics, and more can be performed on specimens when indicated.
  • Histology Services: In partnership with our histology laboratory, we provide tissue processing, slide preparation, special staining, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Specialized Training: We provide hands-on training in necropsy techniques and tissue harvesting for a variety of species, helping researchers develop essential skills for their projects.

Collaborate with Us

We strive to enhance the quality and impact of research, promote the well-being of research animals, and foster the development of technical skills in the scientific community. We recommend engaging our pathology staff early in the research planning process to ensure the best support for your research, but it would be our pleasure to assist at any stage of the research process. The CPC operates on a fee-for-service basis.
