Rocket’s legacy powers care for future patients

After seeing an animal shelter’s social media post featuring a black dog, the Seales family couldn’t resist adopting it.

“It was something about his eyes,” Bridgette Seales said of her eventual four-legged best friend, Rocket.

After being diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer in earlier this year, Rocket received treatment at the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital. When it became clear the cancer was too aggressive to overcome, he received compassionate care to keep him comfortable.

In honor of Rocket’s memory and the care he received, the Seales family named an exam room in the hospital’s oncology wing the Rocket Seales Exam Room.

“I think when you give, you also get something back,” Seales said. “When we thought about making the gift, it wasn’t because we wanted a room named after our dog — they’re going to use those funds to help other dogs. The staff will take advantage of every resource they can to help other people’s pets, and I think that’s amazing.”
