Shelby Harkins

Equine Supervisor, Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine

Shelby Harkins is an Equine Supervisor at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, bringing over 20 years of experience in equine medicine. Her primary areas of practice include equine internal medicine, equine ophthalmology, as well as equine sports medicine and surgery. In her current role, she oversees the Equine Technician Department, providing leadership, mentorship, and clinical support to veterinary staff and students.

Shelby earned her bachelor’s degree in Equine Science from Auburn University in 2010 and later completed her associate’s degree in veterinary technology in 2015, obtaining her Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credential the same year. In 2026, she achieved her Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Large Animal Internal Medicine – Equine, demonstrating advanced expertise and commitment to the field.

A dedicated educator, Shelby has been involved in teaching at Auburn since 2010, contributing to the training and development of veterinary students and technicians. Her professional interests focus on equine internal medicine, where she continues to advance clinical practice and patient care.

Originally from Kentucky, Shelby grew up on the racetrack before moving to Auburn in 2007. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her horse, two dogs, and three cats.
