CVM Communications & Marketing team earns accolades
The College of Veterinary Medicine’s Communications & Marketing team earned recognition during the Public Relations Council of Alabama’s state conference in March. The team earned three Awards of Excellence in PRCA’s Medallion Awards judging for short-term public relations campaigns.

Horzmann earns Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Researcher Award
Dr. Katharine Horzmann, associate professor in the Department of Pathobiology, recently earned the 2025 Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Researcher Award. Horzmann is one of only a handful of faculty members nationwide who blend biomedical research and clinical-diagnostic service in the discipline of toxicologic pathology.

Tillson earns Pratt endowed eminent scholar chair
Dr. Michael Tillson has earned the Bruce G. Pratt, DVM Endowed Eminent Scholar Chair in Small Animal Surgery. This endowed chair honors excellence in clinical service, teaching, and research in small animal surgery. It was established by Dr. Bruce G. Pratt (AU DVM ’53), a devoted veterinarian and philanthropist whose legacy continues to shape our college.

CVM recognizes outstanding staff
The college honored nine employees during its Staff Recognition award ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 27. The awards are presented annually in recognition of how vital administrative staff and employees are to the college’s student education, animal healthcare and research efforts. A committee solicits and reviews nominations of individuals who go “above and beyond” in support of the college’s mission.
