Department of Pathobiology

The Department of Pathobiology is the intersection of basic and clincal sciences within the college. Research programs, funded by 48 extramural contracts and grants, work alongside seven diagnostic laboratories as they serve a broad national clientele of veterinarians and animal owners.  The department’s 34 faculty members include 13 with board-certification in a clinical specialty, and members of the Scott-Ritchey Research Center, the Alabama State Diagnostic Laboratory, and the Department of Clinical Sciences.  A professional staff of over 60 personnel supports the department’s broad academic mission.  The Department of Pathobiology is the academic home for 23 graduate students (19 PhD-level) in the college-wide Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program.  Pathobiology faculty enrich the educational experiences of graduate students, residents,  and veterinary students through their discovery and application of new knowledge in infectious disease, biodetection, cancer biology, molecular therapy, vaccinology, public health, and applied diagnostics.
